Crackers

The party had a robot theme. I, being me, suggested we get into the swing of things and make some robot masks to wear. They, being them, decided we needed to add a touch of flair - a bunny robot, a three-horned unicorn robot and a horse robot. Neigh.

They're crackers, all three of them. Gloriously, beautifully, relentlessly, seriously crackers.

Glorious Mud

Inspired by this woman, and trying to be less uptight about all the bloody, bloody mess, the other day we dug for worms. And made mud. It was fun. And very, very messy.

Zoo

One rug spread out on the grass,
a menagerie of toy animals,
a basket of wooden blocks,
a few bowls of 'hay',
two little girls learning animal sounds from their big sister
and not a single request for the TV all afternoon.

Purple Rain

A wild afternoon wind late last week saw the neighbouring jacaranda dump its bounty in our courtyard. It was enchanting, like the first snow of an imagined winter. The Showgirl grabbed a bowl "for collecting". The sisters joined in, following orders dutifully. Small bare feet on a carpet of purple.

Nanananana

A few weeks ago, these photos would have looked like an ostentatious display of our excessive wealth. Ahem. Hallelujah, nearly a year since the Queensland floods that pushed bananas up to $13 a kilo in my local supermarket, they're back on the menu as an everyday food.

Yes, I'm talking about the price of bananas. So?

Cousin Oscar is here to stay for a couple of days. It's fun watching my babies play at being mummies with him. Oh-car! Oh-car!
