Series

I listened to an interview with Ian Rankin the other day. I realised I'd never read one of his novels, nor ever watched 'Rebus' on the ABC, though it seems to be on constantly. Apparently there are 18 books in the collection already. Something about working through a series appeals to me at the moment. I've read very little crime fiction in my time, apart from the Peter Corris books that line the GM's shelves. But I love Edinburgh, and reading about Edinburgh, and when the Ian Rankin book I picked up at an op shop last week happened to be the first in the series, I took it as a sign. A-murdering and abducting we shall go.

Back in the real world, there's a series of new babies - one already here and a couple waiting in the wings. Highly inconvenient, these warm-weather newborns. It makes things a little tricky for us knitters. I couldn't bundle them up in one of the gazillion hats I've been churning out lately, so I've turned my attention to what must be the perfect summer baby knit - tiny vests in organic cotton, just like this one I knit way back when.

Joining in with the Yarn Along after a brief absence last week.
Grateful to be knitting something other than winter hats.
And so looking forward to seeing what everyone else is creating.

  1. Cotton vests sound perfect! I do love that wool is required for babies nearly year-round here! (minus maybe 2 weeks lol)

  2. I use a lot of cotton here in the south since it will get more use than wool. Love the color your are using, I have been loving grey lately, it's the new black you know! ;)

  3. When I lived in Edinburgh I'd often spot Ian Rankin about town! I haven't read a Rebus in ages but I used to enjoy them. x

  4. Vests are the perfect knit for your upcoming season. I've never read any of those books either.

  5. I love Ian Rankin's novels. I've read a few and they're all good. I'm a huge crime fiction fan and have to read things in series order (it's the control freak completist in me) and am loving the Donna Leon crime series set in Venice. It will make you want to go to Venice so much though! xx

  6. It is tricky to find good summer knits. I made a beret out of cotton once - and that went well but I found I didn't really want to wear a cottony beret int he summer anyway. Love the warm grey color!

  7. Cotton vests sound lovely for the warm weather! I don't usually love knitting with cotton but it is certainly better than heavy wool for a warm-weather newborn. :) xo

  8. You can't beat something lovingly knitted for a newborn. My mum is the avid knitter in our family. I love putting my boys in her handmade knits. Elaina xo

I've never read Ian Rankin either, but I do like crime fiction; looking forward to hearing what you think.

  10. Cotton knits are so much fun, especially in the warmer weather when sitting under mounds of wool is unappealing! Love the color, too.

  14. I loved Ian Rankin's 'Rebus' books; he writes so well. I also discovered him on a TV book show when he was a guest about 10 yrs ago and he now fills an entire bookshelf here. I enjoyed both John Hannah and Ken Stott playing the part "Rebus" in the TV series. The organic cotton yarn looks so soft - love that colour, Greer.

  15. I love your idea for the baby gift. My first knitting projects was an organic cotton baby sweater. I think it's a timeless and charming project.
