Apples

There's an apple tree at the bottom of our garden, just behind the lemon tree. Last year it produced a handful of tiny apples that fell and rotted on the grass, so I declared it a dud. This summer has been different. There were abundant blossoms, then abundant fruit. They should have stayed on the tree longer, but we were advised to get in before the hordes of birds beat us to it.

The full basket has been sitting in the kitchen for a week; they're a bit sour for eating. Today I took to them with a peeler and knife. I made apple sauce, then apple oat muffins (via here, with chopped apple added before baking) for tomorrow's inaugural lunch box.

Half a basket left. I'm thinking pie.

  2. An apple tree at the bottom of the garden here too.
I've made stewed apples so far and there' still plenty left on the tree.
I'll have to give the oat muffins a try.

  6. Apple crumble with ice cream on the side - YUM! I'd love an apple tree but alas we have no room! We do have a budding lemon tree which should produce some goodies soon... Lovely pictures :)

  7. We have an apple tree too, but last year it hardly produced any blossom or fruit. I thought it might be dying but maybe this year it will redeem itself? You've given me hope.

  10. Nothing like home grown fruit. Apple pie sounds excellent. We seem to have bigger problems with possums eating the new growth so we don't actually get to the stage where we are competing with birds for apples. Maybe next year.

In other news, these photos are beautiful, they belong in a cook book
