Trees

I know it's a cliche, but Christmas has been creeping up so quickly, and I've been struggling to get into the spirit. So much so, I wouldn't have been disappointed if Santa rang to tell me the whole thing had been called off. Everyone says it's your kids that make Christmas special, but truth be told, it isn't the same for me without my family around. I miss my mum at this time of year, and it's getting harder and harder for the rest of us to get together. We try to make up for it at other times of the year, but it's never the same.

But with a freshly cut tree lighting up our lounge room, and freshly baked gingerbread ones in the kitchen, things are starting to feel a little more festive around here. And even though my big sis will be on the other side of the world, I've arranged to spend a couple of pre-Christmas days with my little sis at her holiday house. We'll sip champagne and break into the ham a few days early.

I may have caught myself singing some carols yesterday. Perhaps it is beginning to feel a bit like Christmas.

  1. Enjoy the champagne lovely :) Your gingerbread look gorgeous! I'm attempting some with Sunny tomorrow... I know what you mean though. I think I'm a little Christmased out at the moment. I've been singing Christmas carols at work with kids since November preparing for Christmas concerts etc. And Sunny has me driving the streets at night stalking houses decked out in lights! I just want a break from it and the madness at the shops! You can't do your groceries without someone rudely shoving into you! Can I come and have some champas too?!

  3. That gingerbread looks amazing! And there's nothing better than a freshly cut tree to get in the Christmas mood (not that I'd know really - up here in QLD they rot at an alarming rate in the heat of summer!). Enjoy the family time you have, and cut yourself some slack :) Jen x

  4. You must miss your Mum. Sometimes we have to dig bloody deep for the festive spirit but I find the kids usually drag it out of me. Your trees (edible and otherwise) look fab and I am loving your rainbow fairy lights. x

  5. I know what you mean...I don't think I will feel completely Christmasy until my family and I go home to our large extended family just a few days before Christmas. I'm sure it's very hard without your mother..hang in there and enjoy the drinks!

  6. That gingerbread looks delicious. I think it would make me feel more merry, for sure. Meanwhile, I'm feeling a little smothered by family this year. I'm trying to enjoy it...to just let it flow, because I know I'll miss it all one day. But I just need a little space to breathe.

  7. Love those wee Gingerbread trees. A pre Christmas break sounds perfect, and even better when some bubbles are involved. Enjoy! x

  9. I've been waiting for that call from Santa too. Seems like it's going ahead no matter what we say... I know exactly what you mean about missing family. Lovely that you'll get to see one of your sisters. x

  10. Cute christmas tree cookies :)
I can feel the Christmas spirit in your photos. I'm sure the girls are starting to get excited too!

It must be hard without your mum around at Christmas time...I agree...Christmas is all about family and love. And I can understand that it must feel incomplete without her...

    Take care Greer. xx

  11. I hope you find your Christmas spirit!

I know just how you feel...I wish that we could just skip Christmas...it is really hard to get excited about the holiday when your family are not around.
I am trying to put on a cheerful face this year...it is time that we start our own family traditions...but I must say I would not be upset if Santa cancelled the holiday!
