Not Quite

Another Wednesday, another Yarn Along. I'd hoped to present some bright and cheery photos of a cute child in the Playful Stripes Cardigan, gambolling in the grass, soaking up the glorious summer sunshine. Alas, we haven't seen the sun for days, and the model I'd booked for the shoot has a severe case of the green snots. To top it off, when she awoke from her nap today, she was far too grumpy to put on a damp cardigan held together with pins and smile sweetly for the camera.

Yes, it may look finished, but it's not. Can you tell from the photos that it isn't dry yet? And all this rain and snot has left me far from equipped to make important decisions about buttons. Plain silvery shell? Or alternating pink and blue plastic flowers? Classic or cheeky? I can't decide.

One thing I do know is this new book, All That I Am, is a winner. I'm only a chapter in, but I'm willing to put that out there right now. I loved Anna Funder's first book, a non-fiction account of the Stasi in East Germany. And this novel is going to be fantastic. Yes, it is.

Joining in with Small Things. And promising some photos of my girl in her new cardigan when the sun makes its return. And slinking off quietly to read some more of the new book.

Ravelry notes here.

  1. It looks gorgeous (even in a damp and unfinished state!) Personally I'd go with classic buttons, it's such a fabulously colourful yoke that I think silvery buttons would set it off perfectly :)

  4. I think choosing buttons is always difficult, you'll know when you have it just right though. I think the sweater looks fabulous, I love the stripes.

  5. The cardigan is gorgeous, finished or not. I'm looking forward to seeing your button choice though. I find picking buttons difficult too. Though it is a great excuse to visit the craft shop...
    :)
Hope the green snot clears up soon too.

  7. I always think I am going to choose something fun and sassy when I go to pick out buttons, but I always come back to shell. Somehow shell buttons seem to match everything!
I love how your sweater came out. It's lovely.

  8. sorry you've all got the snotty crud.....tis the season. Sweater is adorable--are we voting on buttons? I cast mine for funky! So many great colors to pick up! Hope you're all on the mend soon.

  10. i love it love it love it. I need the pattern in my life now! Choosing buttons is definitely an art, and one that I do not excel at. I find it inexplicably stressful and I don't think I've ever made a decision I'm completely happy with - therefore I shan't offer any opinion here as it would almost certainly be counterproductive ;0/

  12. Love the finished results, even sans buttons. To me, it's screaming for classic buttons.

I hope your model gets well soon.

  13. Oh! This came out wonderfully. I would wear that myself - the color of the stripes work so well with the solid. But I agree, I don't think that green snot coordinates well with this sweater :) Hope she feels better soon. As for buttons, if you really need them... maybe simple mother-of-pearl or dark wooden ones would work well. Don't want the buttons to get all the attention!

  15. Oh I aspire to be the kind of knitter you are--your work is so beautiful. What a perfect cardigan for Valentine's Day! Sending healing blessings to your little sick one. We've had a series of colds running through our house, too. No fun!

  16. I have a kiddo with that too right now. And he hates getting his nose wiped! The sweater is perfect--can't wait to see it on.

  17. It is gorgeous. I thought it was finished. My children always ask me if there are any pins in the things I make, before they consent to "just try it on for me". How they wise up!

  25. Looks fantastic! Navy and red - my favourite combination. I have almost given up on real-life models, that's why my Tikki's Jane project was hung on a wooden hanger for the blog - much more compliant...and much less snot!
